Specialists even distinguish between a 'Broad Star' and 'Slim Star' watermark.
A non-issued 1 Sh blue exists (RRR).
Typical cancel:
Ellipse consisting of horizontal bars with 'S.AUSTRALIA' in the
center
In 1955 a commemoration stamp was issued for Australia in a similar design:
1955 commemoration stamp; 'First stamp of South Australia'
Official reprints with overprint 'REPRINT', examples (note the watermark 'SA Crown' on some of these reprints):
Genuine stamps have two diamonds in the background pattern above the first 'S' and final 'A' of 'SOUTH AUSTRALIA'. Examples of forgeries:
(Some of the images obtained thanks to Bill Claghorn)
Note the above 2 p forgery with a circular cancel with inscription "CORREOS" (as far as I can see the only inscription) and the 2 p with a concentric 4-rings cancel. The label with "SOUTH AUSTRALIA" is placed too close to the central circle in all the above forgeries. The lower lip protrudes and the curl of the hair at the back of the Queen is too long. They exist rather clearly printed, but also rather blur. I've also seen the 2 p red in a more orange shade.
Another (engraved?) forgery of the 1 Sh value with the lettering
very badly done.
Very strange item 'X PENCE' in red color.
9 p grey (lilac) Surcharged and colour changed
'TEN PENCE' (blue or black) on 9 p orange (or yellow) '8 PENCE' on 9 p brown Official stamps, overprinted 'O.S.' '8 PENCE' on 9 p brown

Official reprints:
Forgery, example:
The face of the Queen is very strange. There is a dot on the
cheek of the Queen. The background is solid.
Note the dot below the eye of the Queen in the above forgery. This forgery is described as the first one (of two) in Album Weeds.
Forgery; both the surcharge and the stamp itself are forged. Note
the patterns in the four corners, which are different from
genuine stamps. The crown on the Queen's head has a 'wavy'
appearance. I've also seen this forgery in yellow color. The
Queen has a dot on her neck, below the ear.
Dubious item.
