Forgeries exist, examples:
Forgeries of the 3 c and 10 c produced in Germany. Probably by Engelhardt Fohl of Dresden according to the Mitteldeutsche

There is even a forgery of the 10 c value in the wrong colour blue (see image above for example).
Another forgery of the 6 c has the head of Franklin pointing in the wrong direction (to the right instead of the left). For more forgeries of the 1 c value, see http://www.jobi.bizhosting.com/Many%20Faces%20Die%2012FG.htm. Another forgery of the 1 c exists in which the stars are touching the inner oval.
One forgery of the 1 c has six-rayed stars instead of five.

Both values exist in two types: with single or double lines below "POSTAGE" (the red one with double line being very rare).
Four different types of forgeries exist of this issue, the next one has the wrong colour (blue):
The red forgeries above (with the '8' cancel and the bar cancel) are known as the French or type II forgery. The green stamp is known as the English (or type I) forgery.

There exist some official postal stationery with inscription "WAR DEPT" or "POST OFFICE DEPT" (issued 1870), see under 'official stamps' for more details.
Another official envelope has the inscription "UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE" in an ellipse, example:
