In 1945 stamps were issued in the French occupation zone of Germany, special stamps with inscription 'BADEN', 'WURTTEMBERG' and 'RHEINLAND PFALZ' (Rhine Palatinate) were issued as well as a general issue. In 1949 the French occupation zone joined the Bizone. The Saar region continued to issue its own stamps.

1945 Besides the individual issues for each territory, general issues for the occupied french territories were also issued, they have the inscription 'ZONE FRANCAISE BRIEFPOST'

With red overprint 'Wohnungbau Abgabe'

The small tax stamp 'NOTOPFER BERLIN STEUERMARKE' exists with red overprint 'Wohnungbau Abgabe' for use in Wurttemberg.

 


2 p orange tax stamp

1949 Also an additional small tax stamp (value 2 in the colour orange or yellow) was issued ('WOHNUNGSBAUABGABE STEUERMARKE WURTTEMBERG - HOHENZOLLERN', see image above).

 

A 'reprint' exists of a non-issued 5 DM lilac stamp with the image of Graf Zeppelin. It is issued in a minisheet and has inscription 'Facsimile 1988' written at the bottom.


SAAR


The Saar region also issued stamps from 1947 to 1959 under French occupation.
