The stamps of Straits Settlements are almost always heavily cancelled, most of the time they also bear firm chops (as a protection against theft). Some of them are large enough to cover three individual stamps. The following website http://www.michelhoude.com shows many of such chops and provides very useful information. Cancelled by hand
"B & Co" for Boustead & Co. Also handwritten. The handwritten 'B&Co' is quite common.


"D.BRANDT & Co SINGAPORE" in a double ellipse, center empty?


"BEHN MEYER & Co SINGAPORE" several types exist, also a similar chop, but from "PENANG". Also a perfin with 'B.M.&Co' of the same company.


"BORNEO COMPANY FORWARDED"? Also exists in blue color.


"CAMERON DUNLOP & Co SINGAPORE" in blue. Ellipse with horizontal ornament in the middle.


"C.B.I. A.&C." in violet (2 lines) for Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China. Next to it a blue double ellipes with "CHARTERED BANK OF INDIA AUSTRALIA & CHINA"; it also exists with a dat in the ellipse.


"C.M.B." in violet, for Chartered Mercantile Bank. Different types (shorter or longer).


"CHARTED MERCANTILE BANK OF INIDIA, LONDON & CHINA PAID PENANG" with large "PAID" in the centre of the ellipse


"CHARTED MERCANTILE BANK OF INDIA, LONDON & CHINA SINGAPORE", the centre of the ellipse is empty(?)


"C.M.BANK PENANG"; Chartered Mercantile Bank


"COMPAGNIE DE SERVICES MESSAGIERES MARITIMES AGENCE DE SINGAPORE"


"D.B&C" for D.Brandt & Co.


"GILFILLAN, WOOD & Co SINGAPORE" exists in violet or blue. Also 'G.W.&Co.' in violet.


"H. & S.B.C." in a straight line in violet from Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Cooporation. Next to it a slightly different type with "H.&S.B.C. No...." in two lines in black color and another one in blue.


"E&H HINNEKINDT SINGAPORE" in blue or violet


"G&Co." from Gutrie & Co in violet.


"HUTTENBACH BROS. & CO," there are some five different types of the Huttenbach chop.


Letter with circular 'KALTENBACH ENGLER & Co SINGAPORE' with date in the center. Also with mute 'normal' cancels.


"KATZ BROTHERS ??", different types


"KUMPERS & CO SINGAPORE", only in red? Another type exists with 'KUMPERS & Co" in the outside of a double ellipse with the date in the center (next image).


"JOHN LITTLE" several types exist.


'STAMPED AND ?? SINGAPORE MACLAINE FRASER & CO"?


"Mc ALISTER & CO SINGAPORE" in two lines in violet.


"M.D.& Co." in a blue box from Martin Dyer & Co. Next to it in a red box. Two other types exists of this company.

Normal cancel and red firm chop aswell
"PUTTFARCKEN RHEINER & Co SINGAPORE" in oval and red color with or without date in the center. The first stamp has another circular chop in blue.


"RAUTENBERG SCHMIDT & CO SINGAPORE". Several other types exist of this company.


"ROBINSON & Co PENANG" in violet in two lines.


"SANDILANDS BUTTERY & Co" and another 'FORWARDED BY SANDILANDS..? PENANG". This company also used "S.B.&Co"


"Schmidt, Kustermann & Co. PENANG"; also exists with all capital letters (see second to fourth image). Also 'S.K.&Co' in a violet ellipse. This company also used "S.K.C." or "SK&C" perforations.


"C.SCHOMBURGK & Co SINGAPORE." in black or blue.


"STAEHELIN & STAHLKNECHT SINGAPORE"; exists in violet, black or blue.


Syme & Co, "STAMPED BY SYME & Co. SINGAPORE"


"BANK OF ROTTERDAM SINGAPORE AGENCY" on stamps of India.
