The forger Peter Winter (Germany) made forgeries of many classic and rare stamp of several countries in the 1980's. They sometimes have the word 'replik' written on the backside (but not always). He not only sold them 'loose' but also on cover. He seems to have used some photographs of the British Library in London to make some of his forgeries (source: http://www.sheryll.net/Forgeries/Germany/Forgeries_article_Germany.htm). A catalog exists of the 'House of Stamps', offering his 'stamps', see: http://www.seymourfamily.com/billclaghorn/HouseOfStamps/index.htm. Recently, these forgeries are offered in large numbers on internet auctions for low prices.

(Example of the 'replik' overprint on the backside of a Winter forgery

Note on all Winter forgeries:They are printed on modern paper (the paper doesn't 'look' old). This is the main distinghuishing characteristic.

OLDENBURG:

Peter Winter also made forgeries of the 1851 issue; I have seen all four values and also the 1/30 th and 1/15 th values in blocks of four.

A block of four 1/30 Th 'Winter repliks' with cancel

A block of four 1/15 Th Winter forgeries with blue cancel 'OLDENBURG 10/3' in a box

Three 1/10 Th Winter forgeries on a forged letter with cancel blue rectnagular cancel 'ABBEHAUSEN'

Distinguishing characteristics:
1/3 Sgr: there is a break in the outer frameline below the 'D' of 'OLDENBURG'. I posess this forgery cancelled with 'LDENB' in very large letters (in blue).
1/30 Th: The design is copied very carefully, the only things I can see are the small 'bumbs' in the upper right and lower right corner. I posess this forgery cancelled.
1/15 Th: The 1/15 Th Winter forgery always seems to have the same break in the inner outline (to the left of the crown). I posess this forgery with a blue rectangular cancel, however, I'm unable to read the text of this cancel.
1/10 Th: This Winter forgery always has the same breaks and spots in the outer outline, for example besides the '1' in the left hand side and between the '3' and 'S' at the right hand side. I posess this forgery cancelled with 'TERST' in very large blue letters.

On all my copies on the back of the stamps, the word 'replik' is printed.

SAXONY:

(Saxony 1850 3 pfennige issue)

Winter also offered this Saxony 1850 issue in a whole sheet (20 stamps).

I also posess a Peter Winter forgery of the 1851 arms issue (3 p green) on very white paper. He also made forgeries of 'proofs' without value inscription (6 different colours: green, dark-brown, light-brown, orange, dark-blue and finally light-blue; the center is always black).

(1851 arms forgery and 'proof')

Two forged stamps, 3 p red and 3 p green on a forged envelope to Annaberg, all produced by Peter Winter. I've also seen this envelope with an additional 'REICHENBACH 20 Aug 52' cancel in the upper right corner.

WURTTEMBERG:

I've also seen Winter forgeries of the first serie of Wurttemberg (1851), uncancelled (with 'replik' printed on the backside):

(Zoom-in on the 'replik' part)

As far as I can see, in all the forgeries of one value, the same breaks in the lines appear in the same position (they differ from value to value). For example the broken up line under 'Freimarke' in the 9 k value. My copies have the following cancels:
1 k: 'Stuttgart Bahnhof' in a rounded rectangle in green
3 k: 'ULM 3 JUN 1873 12 -3' in a double circle in green (badly readable)
6 k: 'ENDERSBACH 23 2 53' with three circles
9 k: 'STUTTGART POSTAMT SEP 8' in a pie-cake like cancel in blue
18 k: 'ULM 3 JUN 1873 12 -3' in a double circle

I have also seen the cancel 'LUDWIGSBURG 12 JUN 1852 10-12' in a double circle on the 18 k forgery.

Another bisected 18 k Winter forgery on a forged letter

I have seen the same letter with a forged 5 Sgr stamp of Bremen.

Peter Winter forgery

The above forged 70 k stamp on letter has some very special cancels: 'STUTTGART Charge' with black lozenges between the two words. The letter is adressed to 'Messieurs Pansan et Montgolfier', it further has the written text 'Einschreiben'. Note, that the same forged letter (same text!) has also been used by Peter Winter to generate a forged letter from Bremen and Brunswick!
