France Postage Due Stamps, 1881 issue.
These stamps, but imperforate, were used in the French colonies.
See also: French colonies, postage due stamps, forgeries.
The stamp forger Venturini is known to have made forgeries of the French postage due stamps (and also the French colonies), see "Philatelic forgers, their lives and works" by V.E.Tyler.
Forged perforation on a French Colonies imperforate 1 F postage
due stamp. The next stamp also appears to have forged
perforation. These forgeries were made from imperforate French
colonies stamps, since those are many times cheaper than this
French postage due stamp.
The above stamp is a French colonies imperforate stamp, with perforation fraudently added afterwards.
Completely forged stamps also exist, they have often a slightly different size from the genuine ones (since they were reproduced by photo-lithography) and the perforation in the corners is not perfectly matching as in the originals. The image has been copied very accurately in these forgeries.
5 F brown forgery. The "S" of "FRANCS" is
placed too close to the label besides it.
Forged 5 F stamp. This forgery is quite blur, I've seen more of
these blur forgeries for the French
Colonies.
Left genuine 1 c stamp, right a more blur forgery.
Forgery with the perforation in the corners not correct and/or
the whole perforation wrong.
The forger Fournier also offered forgeries. If I'm informed correctly, the ornament left to the "C" of "CHIFFRE" is badly done and in the 1 F the "1" is placed too far to the left.
Fournier made two types of forgeries of these stamps.
This is an imperforate 50 c forgery made by Fournier probably taken from a 'Fournier
Album of Philatelic forgeries', the ornament left to the
"C" of "CHIFFRE" is badly done. Click here for more Fournier forgeries of
France.
A pair of imperforate 50 c black Fournier forgeries as taken from
a Fournier Album of Philatelic Forgeries.
Block of 3 Fournier type I forgeries, consisting of the 1 F, 2 F
and 5 F brown. The 1 F has a dot to the right of the
"R" of "PERCEVOIR". The 2 F has the bottom of
the "S" of "FRANCS" smudged. The 5 F has a
tiny dot to the left of the "R" of
"PERCEVOIR" and another tiny dot outside the stamp next
to the upper right corner ornament.
A whole block of black Fournier Type I forgeries, containing all
values
The 1 F and 5 F of this forgery type, but now perforated.
The Fournier Type I forgeries can be
distinguished by:
1 c: The frameline above the upper left "RF" is
irregular
There is a small black line in the white line above the
"R" of "CHIFFRE" (I'm not sure if this is
always the case)
2 c: There are two breaks in the upper frameline above
"CH".
3 c: The right bottom corner has a downwards extension.
4 c: There is a tiny dot in front of the "4".
5 c: In my view, there is a tiny scratch outside the design to
the right of the "S" of "POSTES".
10 c: The first "R" of "PERCEVOIR" has a
white space in the left leg.
15 c: The bottom right corner is rather smudged (I don't know if
this is always the case).
20 c: There is a tiny dot in the upper part of the banderole next
to the "S" of "CENTIMES".
30 c: A small dot appears just above the lower curl of the
"3".
40 c: There is a dot between the "V" and "O"
of "PERCEVOIR".
60 c: There is a tiny dot on top of the first "R" of
"PERCEVOIR".
1 F: There is a dot behind the last "R" of
"PERCEVOIR" (exists in black, brown and lilac). Also
there is a break in the banderole next to the "C" of
"FRANC".
2 F: The bottom of the "S" of "FRANCS" is
badly done (exists in black and brown)
5 F: There is a tiny dot to the left of the first "R"
of "PERCEVOIR" and another tiny dot outside the stamp
next to the upper right corner corner ornament (exists in black
and brown)
Fournier forgeries of the 1 F and 2 F both with cancel 'NANTUA
3E/15 JUIL 82 AIN'
Fournier forgeries taken from a Fournier Album. The first one has
a "UZES 2E/14 NOV 89 GARD" cancel. I think the last one
has a "PARIS 12 BD BEAUMARCHAIS 8E/12 DEC 94" cancel
In the 'Fournier Album of Philatelic Forgeries' I have seen a 2 F brown Fournier forgery with a "CLUSES 2E/22 OCT 91 HAUTE-SAVOIE" cancel and a 5 F brown with a "UZES 2E/14 NOV 89 GARD" cancel. I've also seen a 1 F black Fournier forgery with a "PARIS 4E./27 JANV. 82 (60)" cancel.
