I have seen postal stationery of 5 p violet, 5 p green, 10 p red and 25 p brown in the same design. I have also seen a postcard with an impression of a 2 p grey, overprinted with three horizontal bars and a further impression of a 3 p brown just next to this 2 p.

25 p 'Postanweisung' postal stationery, I've also seen a 15 p yellow in a similar design

I know that the forger Fournier made a forgery of the 1 M yellow value. Click here for such a Fournier Forgery.

Fournier forgery of the 1 M yellow stamp.

Distinguishing characteristics: left genuine, right Fournier forgery. The Fournier forgery has the oblique line below 'AMT..' all the way to the horizontal line below 'EINE'. In the genuine stamp, this line stops well before this line

Two stamps with the stars in front and behind 'POST' larger and the lettering rather different. Also no dot behind the words 'PFENNIG' or 'MARK'. According to 'Fakes & Forgeries of Germany + Colonies, No 2, 1966, page 46, these forgeries were made in 1902 by Anton Wolf of Stuttgart. Wolf made at least two more forgeries, possibly different colours of the same values or the crown overprints (next issue).

For the specialist: Many of these stamps exist cancelled to order. I've seen the 50 p value imperforate (I've been told it was a proof).

I've seen this whole set with a very neat cancel (cancelled to order?) 'STUTTGART 31 MRZ 20 10-12 V' in a single circle.

Example of such a cancel

A reprint was made by the firm Gehringer in 1979. It consists of a minisheet with one 75 p green stamp (the color is different from the genuine stamp?). The inscription on top of the sheet is 'NUBRIA '79' and below 'Neu-Ulmer und Ulmer Briefmarkenausstellung 1979 Edwin - Scharff - Haus'.
