1862 Queen Victoria, 'adapted desing'

  6 p black

This stamp has perforation 12. The central part of the 'beaded oval' 6 p was used for this stamp and a new outer section was 'adapted'. Some stamps show heavy wear in the central design leaving large portions of the ellipse white (see second image above).

Forgery


Forgery of the 6 p stamp with the head of the Queen different from a genuine stamp. I've only seen it with a 'C64' numeral cancel.

The value of the stamp should correspond with its watermark for the 'Single lined' and 'Double lined' watermarks, i.e. '2' for 2 p etc. However, some stamps exist were printed on paper with the wrong watermark, for example the 2 p with watermark '1' etc.

An imperforate Fournier forgery of the 2 Sh stamp. I don't think Fournier actually sold this forgery, but used it to illustrate his pricelists.

This stamp has watermark 'V Crown'. Two types exist of this stamp: with single external line of the oval or with double line.
